The lady Viking soccer team has had a tough season but they’re not hanging their heads. The season kicked off Friday March 25 at the Garden Spot High School field. Despite the girls’ best efforts their first game ended in a loss 0-3. Currently 5-12 overall, the Vikings have one more game left in the season and are looking to end with the season on a good note. Three of their wins, however, were impressive shut-outs with scores of 5-0 against Annville Cleona and 2-0 against Lebanon Catholic as well another impressive score of 5-0 against the Lebanon Cedars. April 4 at 7:15 the ladies opened their first home night game with a bang. The girls played a tough physical game against the Annville Dutchmen, punishing them for their mistakes with a final score of 5-0.
The girls have taken a heavy hit in numbers this season, losing over half their varsity squad from last year. In fact, currently five sophomores and one freshman are part of the Lady Viking starting lineup. With practically a whole new team, this year the Vikings focused on growing and improving as a team. Holding a record with five wins is a respectable achievement for the varsity team considering the heavy losses in personnel. Tomorrow, May 5 will mark the end of the season as the girls wrap up their season at the Donegal Indian’s field.
